Heat illness can be deadly. In 2014, roughly 2,630 workers suffered from some form of heat illness and 18 died from heat stroke or related causes while on the job. In order to educate folks on the danger of working in the heat, OSHA has kicked off its annual Summer Heat Safety Campaign. The campaign provides heat safety tips, educational information, and an online toolkit to help keep those who work outside knowledgeable on what they can do to stay safe. They have even created an app for iPhone and Android users to calculate the heat index for their work site, and, based on the heat index, displays a risk level to outdoor workers.
